A Chinese "Blade Runner-esq" Film

2046 - Movie directed by Wan Kar Wei, artistic Cinematography by Christopher Doyle and amazing production design by William Chang. This William Chang must be a genius since he also edited this movie too! The movie is about a newspaper writer played by Tony Leung writing a futuristic story about his pass. Again alot of sex but each frame of this movie is absolutely beautiful. It's set between 1962-1969 and some of the framing has mid century cool modern wallpaper and furnishing with gorgeous profiles of incredibly beautiful Chinese women in their Chong Sams. It was literally a parade of Asian decadence with western style. Tony is the Asian "Clark Gable" of this movie, cool and sexy. Ok, it's going to look like I have a crush on Tony Leung but actually I just love the colors of this film. Especially the desaturated blue green tones of their room and clothing. Maybe I'll start wearing a Chong Sam.

Neon Hip Geisha

Hey! Movie Monday! So I thought I would start recommending movies with either great Asian themed production design or something interesting and Eurasian. I know I posted a movie last Friday but I thought, " Hey! there no rules here!? ", so I'm going to start having Movie Monday. So look forward to production clips and even possible trailers!

Sakuran is not the typical Geisha movie. It's the Anti-"Memoirs of a Geisha" and more like a Geisha twist on Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette". The Lead actress Anna Tsuchiya is half Japanese and Russian/American. She is the rebel ass-kicking Geisha. It's fun to watch and the music feel punk next to these images. Directed by Ninagawa Mika, she is also known for her Photography and her style.
