Chinosierie 003

Here is some sample of ideas of a modern interpretation Chinoiserie. It's from Romo Fabrics. There are other paper pattern I've seen in Domino Magazine. Like the bright Yellow wallpaper with white lotus blossoms. I thought the first pattern reminded me of a very common pattern in Japaneses house coats. The chrysanthemum pattern reminds me of something Korean. Their traditional artwork on pottery and scroll painting has the chrysanthemum which symbolize good health and well being .

So here is another trend report on Chinoiserie from a English Mag Livingetc. I think the wooden cabinet look more South Pacific, I guess that would be Asian too. The background behind the model is a wallpaper from Frometal Hand Painted Wallpaper Company in the UK, the pattern is called Nonsuch. But after a little research I found another site from China. Probably the main source called Neo Silk Road . I emailed a sales person named Kevin and he quoted $99.00 per sq meter. Much more reasonable than Frometal or De Gournay. The article quoted a price of £182 a sq meter. That would be about $364 with the exchange rate. Hmmmmm. (first 3 picture is from Neo Silk Road.)

More rooms

The bathroom has one of my favorite old mirrors. You really can't see yourself in it but it gives a nice feel to the bathroom. The stairs in the hallway is covered in a old mangle cloth I got from ebay seller called loodylady in england. I re-upholstered the brown chairs and the couch is slip covered in oatmeal linen. I collect old lighted globes because I love the light it casts at night. It's warm, romantic and different. The coffee table is made of old Chinese doors and was made by Vivian Kimmelman at Berkshire Home and Antiques. I will do a special posting on her soon. She is a great source for everything, and I mean everything!! The last picture is my candlesticks I have in my dining room. I LOVE the little bristle woodland figurines!

The house so far...

We bought a old 1830's Greek Revival Parsonage to a Church in Aug 2001. We did most of the renovation of the old part of house ourselves. The main house was structurally fine but had a bad addition put on in the 50's that connected the main house to the barn near it. In July 2005 we started a major structural rebuild of the barn and addition. We added 2000 sq ft to the house on the same footprint. There is still more work to do, but we moved in on Nov 2006. I'm still decorating with little pieces. I will post more pictures I took this weekend of the living room.

Welcome

So this is my very first posting and I hope I can share something inspirational and beautiful. I'm slowly searching the world and my neighborhood to fill my brand new home with my sense of design. Here is a picture of my home and I will slowly post more pictures of the inside of our home.
